Nissan Factory Warranty – What It Covers and What It Doesn’t

There are several reasons why Nissan is among the most popular car brands in the world. Of course, the first thing that comes to mind is well-known reliability of Japanese cars. Although not on the same level as Toyota or Honda, Nissan is still among the most reliable and dependable carmakers around. Therefore, most buyers don’t see a relatively short warranty as an issue.

Nissan’s warranty comes in a couple of tiers and it this particular case, we will stick to the things that are covered by the standard warranty. As we’ve just mentioned, it is a little bit shorter compared to most rival brands, but we may expect this will change in the future. Meanwhile, the story goes like this:

Nissan Factory Warranty – What It Covers and What It Doesn’t

What does Nissan factory warranty cover?

When it comes to the standard factory warranty, there is no such thing as “bumper to bumper” coverage, as many manufacturers like to advertise. Like any other manufacturer, Nissan offers a warranty that differs in time depending on the group of parts. Therefore, count on specific warranty for powertrain, other parts, or CVT transmission.

The 3-year limited warranty is the shortest one. It covers all kinds of repairs that correct defects in materials or workmanship of parts original to the Nissan vehicle. This one lasts for three years or 36.000 miles, whichever comes first.

On the other side, the so-called 5-year warranty refers to the powertrain. The company covers all repair costs of parts like engine, transmission and other parts of a drivetrain. The limited powertrain coverage includes parts like oil pump, water pump, and fuel pump, as well as engine parts. This warranty covers either five years or 60.000 miles, whichever comes first.

Finally, there is also a 10-year warranty, which is also known as a CVT-limited warranty extension, which covers models with the CVT gearbox.

All these warranties cover repair expenses, which can sometimes be pretty expensive. However, keep in mind that the company covers these expenses only if all maintenance activities are takes in an authorized Nissan dealer repair shop. Otherwise, you lose your warranty.

What’s not covered with the Nissan factory warranty?

As we already mentioned, there is no such thing as “bumper to bumper” in the real world. Therefore, count that there are certain things that won’t be covered in any way. Some of the first things that come to mind are tires (which often have their own warranty), factory accessories, headlights and electronic systems.

Of course, keep in mind that standard warranty doesn’t include things like regular service and parts replacement, which are part of regular maintenance. Naturally, this warranty doesn’t cover repairs and failures that are a direct consequence of poor maintenance. Therefore, be sure to stick to the maintenance schedule. Also, the warranty won’t cover if you use the wrong parts, non-Nissan parts etc. Once the factory warranty expires, you can opt for the extended coverage. We will talk more about it in some of the next articles.
