Genuine SUVs are popular again and from the perspective of Nissan management, this can mean only one – bringing back the good old Xterra. The legendary SUV was widely popular during the 90s and early 2000s. However, the economical crisis and lack of updates made the latest iteration not particularly appealing. That resulted in discontinuation in 2015. Now, it looks like we could see it on the market in a new form, better than ever, as the 2022 Nissan Xterra.
At this point, it’s still early to talk about details, as there is no official confirmation about this revival. Still, some of the things are quite easy to predict, especially when it comes to mechanics and base design characteristics in general. Naturally, the new model would also share many of its parts with the Frontier, which is also coming completely redesigned after so many years. Still, we count on a plethora of exclusive details as well.
2022 Nissan Xterra Redesign
The 2022 Nissan Xterra will come as an all-new model. Six years have been based since the discontinuation of the last iteration, which was introduced way back in 2005. Therefore, it’s easy to conclude that the new model will be superior in every aspect. Of course, the first thing that comes to mind is the platform and an interesting thing is that the new model will continue relying on a good-old F-Alpha platform. Still, this architecture went through significant updates during these years, so it doesn’t have too many things in common with the first version.
This particular version of the platform should be pretty much the same as in the new Frontier. Of course, the wheelbase will be significantly shorter, as this is going to be a mid-size SUV, which will compete with models like Toyota 4Runner and 4-door versions of Jeep Wrangler and Ford Bronco. Therefore, we expect to see somewhere around 115 inches between the axles.
Exterior
When it comes to the exterior design, many compare the new 2022 Nissan Xterra with the model called Terra. This SUV is sold in Asia and it comes based on Navara. While the two SUVs may have some similarities in terms of mechanics, the visual appearance will be completely different. The latest reports suggest that the 2022 Nissan Xterra will come with a pretty exclusive appearance, which will take a lot of inspiration from the recently updated Patrol and Armada models, but which will also come with a plethora of unique design solutions.
This particularly refers to the front end, which should feature a pretty unique look. We’ve already seen a couple of rendering photos that show interesting design solutions. The rest of the body, though, should come in a rather conventional layout, with a typical SUV body and boxy overall shape.
Interior
Of course, the inside of the 2022 Nissan Xterra is still a big mystery. Simply, we are miles away from production and only we can say is that we expect a lot of influence from the new Frontier. Of course, everything should be packed in a little bit nicer package, with finer materials and more tech features.
We count on a lot of space on the inside. The first two rows would be pretty generous with legroom, while the boxy shape would provide plenty of headroom as well. The third row may come as standard, or as an option. In both cases, it would be notably tighter compared to the first two rows. The cargo area should offer typical numbers for the class.
2022 Nissan Xterra Engine
This is probably the only thing we know for sure about the 2022 Nissan Xterra. Of course, it would use the same engine as the Frontier. WE are talking about the new 3.8-liter V6, which delivers around 310 horsepower. The engine should offer solid driving dynamics, while the power would be sent to the rear or all wheels via a 9-speed automatic transmission.
2022 Nissan Xterra Release Date and Price
At this point, the 2022 Nissan Xterra is still just a rumor, despite that we can hear a lot of rumors about its arrival already in the next year. We are still waiting to hear something from the officials, so keep this article with reserve. If it arrives, we presume that the base price would go somewhere between 30.000 and 35.000 dollars.
