The company’s European best-seller is coming completely redesigned for the next year and that’s definitely a big thing for the large army of fans of this small crossover. The current generation will be replaced after eight years of production and it’s leaving the scene as one of Nissan’s most successful models in the last decade. It aged in a pretty amazing way, so it’s no wonder that the expectations for the new models are pretty high. The new model has already been spotted on the road and we expect to see it already in summer, as the 2022 Nissan Qashqai.
At this point, we already know most of the details about the new generation. We saw photos of both test mule and those that are believed to show the final appearance. Also, we know for sure that the new model will ride on the upgraded CMF platform and that it will bring loads of improvements. Finally, big novelties are coming under the hood, in the form of massive electrification.
2022 Nissan Qashqai Redesign
As we’ve just mentioned, the new model will bring a lot of changes. However, the mechanical aspect of the vehicle will rather come with the evolutionary approach. First of all, this refers to the platform. The new 2022 Nissan Qashqai will continue to ride on a well-known CMF architecture, which will be significantly updated for this occasion, so the new version of the platform is codenamed CMF-C.
The new design will bring benefits in various aspects and one of the first things that come to mind is that the chassis will be 41% stiffer. At the same time, we will see a quite notable weight reduction. Improvements in comfort are about to come as well, so you may count on the independent rear suspension, though it won’t be a standard feature. In order to save production costs, base models will rather feature a torsion bar, which is something that’s becoming quite common thing on the European market, unfortunately.
Exterior
When it comes to the exterior design, the testing model has been spotted a while ago and despite it has a cover on those photos, it clearly shows a quite similar shape. Furthermore, you may count on similar dimensions too, considering that the new model features just a slightly longer wheelbase, around 35 millimeters. The new model is also slightly longer and wider.
Moreover, we have recently seen the new e-Power hybrid version and that version comes completely uncovered. From what we can see, the new generation will adopt the brand’s latest design language and most things will be shared at the front, where you may count on Nissan’s new approach the well-known V-Motion design. The grille is bolder, while headlights feature a new, dual layout. The rest of the body features a notably sharper appearance.
Interior
When it comes to the interior design, the latest reports suggest a notable improvement in terms of quality, though we have to say that the outgoing model still looks pretty good in this aspect, so expectations are pretty high. From what we know so far, the dashboard will look quite similar to the bigger Xtrail/Rogue, which features a clean layout and is brings two large screens. One of them is a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, while the other one is a 10.1-inch tablet-like infotainment touchscreen.
In terms of space, the new generation will gain 28 millimeters of legroom in the second row, while we count on more cargo space as well. According to the company, the new generation will offer 74 liters more than its predecessor.
2022 Nissan Qashqai Engines
Big novelties are coming under the hood too. The biggest one will certainly be the version with a new e-Power hybrid system, which features a quite different design compared to other plug-in hybrids on the market. There is a 1.5-liter turbo-four with 158 horsepower, but it doesn’t send power to wheels directly, but rather charges the battery, which supplies an electric motor of 188 horsepower and 330 Nm of max torque.
Another big novelty is that the new 2022 Nissan Qashqai won’t be available with diesel engines. Instead, there will be just a couple of gasoline options, but both in pair with a 12V mild-hybrid system. Of course, we are talking about a familiar 1.3-liter turbo unit, which comes with either 140 or 160 horsepower. Both gasoline engines will come coupled with a CVT gearbox.
2022 Nissan Qashqai Release Date and Price
We expect to see the 2022 Nissan Qashqai sometime in the summer. A more significant price increase shouldn’t happen, so base models would probably go around £23.500 in the UK. Some of the key competitors will be models like Seat Ateca, Skoda Karoq, Kia Sportage etc.
