The current generation of Pathfinder has been around for more than eight years. So, it’s not really hard to conclude that it isn’t particularly competitive in this fast-growing segment. Therefore, all fans of Nissan’s large crossover are eagerly waiting to see some novelties. It looks like the all-new model will arrive already this year, as the 2022 Nissan Pathfinder. We already saw a couple of spy shots, which show a camouflaged model we believe is the next-generation Pathfinder.
At this point, we don’t know too much about the new model. However, we can make some predictions, based on what we’ve seen from Nissan in recent time. Therefore, we are pretty sure that the new model will come with rather an evolutionary approach in terms of mechanics. On the other side, the visual aspect should bring significant improvements over the current, not so inspiring generation.
2022 Nissan Pathfinder Redesign
As we’ve just mentioned, the 2022 Nissan Pathfinder will come completely redesigned, but the mechanics won’t feature any radical changes. Instead, the company will continue to evolve familiar technologies and design solutions. This particularly refers to the familiar D platform, which may be around for a while but which constantly gets updated.
Of course, we expect that many design solutions will be borrowed from new Maxima and Altima models, as well as on some all-new things. This includes a new suspension setup, which is expected to be far more advanced compared to the outgoing-generation.
Exterior
Of course, exterior changes are always first to be noticed. The 2022 Nissan Pathfinder is no exception and some spy shots already appeared on the internet. They show a completely camouflaged test mule, which barely shows the new styling. Still, there are few things we can see under the camouflage, such as the latest iteration of the brand’s new design language, the latest version of a familiar V-motion grille. Also, we are pretty sure that headlights will take a lot of inspiration from the refreshed Patrol.
The rest of the body will feature a rather classic SUV layout. We expect similar proportions as in the current model, though it is quite possible to see a slight wheelbase stretching. However, we don’t expect a significant increase, considering that the current model already features quite typical dimensions for the class.
Interior
If you look at the outgoing model, there are many things that need to be fixed. This particularly refers to the dashboard design, which features a quite outdated design. The 2022 Nissan Pathfinder should look far better in this aspect. Of course, a lot of inspiration will come from the newer-generation sedans, as well as from the new Rogue. We count on a rather clean design, combined with a large tablet-like touchscreen and notably finer materials.
Considering that the current model already features quite typical dimensions for the class and that the new model probably won’t get much bigger, we presume that the interior space won’t be increased too much. Of course, some slight improvements are expected, especially in the third row, but the current generation seems pretty decent in this aspect. On the other side, we expect improvements in terms of visibility, driving position and ergonomics in general.
Of course, a couple of additional cubes in the cargo area are also to come. The current model offers around 16 cubic feet behind the third row and nearly 80 cubic feet of the overall cargo volume. Those are quite typical ratings for the segment.
2022 Nissan Pathfinder Engines
The upcoming redesign is about to bring changes under the hood as well. The current model comes with a familiar 3.5-liter V6, which is powerful but also quite thirsty. Therefore, it will probably be replaced with a familiar 2.0-liter turbo-four engine, with variable compression. The exact output is still unknown, but presume it will go around 300 horsepower. More importantly, we will see a new transmission. Instead of the current, pretty uninspiring CVT gearbox, the 2022 Nissan Pathfinder should implement a new, more engaging 9-speed automatic transmission.
Some sources also suggest we could see a more powerful, performance version of the new model. At this point, the officials are quiet on this matter, so take this rumor with a reserve.
2022 Nissan Pathfinder Release Date and Price
We expect to see the 2022 Nissan Pathfinder sometime in the second half of the year. The price shouldn’t be significantly higher compared to the outgoing model, which starts around 32.000 dollars.
