2022 Nissan GT-R Updates, Special Edition, NISMO, Price

When you last more than 12 years in the world of supercars, you know you’re a legend. This is the best way to describe the famous Godzilla, which is still coming out from the factory line in Japan. Introduced way back in 2008, this supercar still offers competitive performances, thanks to constant updates. Therefore, it’s no wonder that the 2022 Nissan GT-R will also come with a couple of interesting novelties, mostly in terms of a new special edition. Other than that, you may count on a familiar layout.

So, the 2022 Nissan GT-R will continue to offer rocket-like acceleration and super-sharp handling, just like we used to from it. Despite the age, the model still looks great, at least from the outside. On the other side, it’s impossible to hide the outdated interior design, despite that there are new materials and few tech goodies.

2022 Nissan GT-R Design

When it comes to base design characteristics, the 2022 Nissan GT-R will remain pretty much the same. However, novelties are definitely coming. Just like in the previous model years, this one will also come with a new special edition in the offer. There is a new package called Special Edition, which will be reserved for NISMO models. Compared to standard versions, it will stand out with features like black-painted 20-inch wheels with red accents, a carbon-fiber hood, and a special Stealth Gray exterior paint color.

On the other side, the overall layout will remain the same. Basically, there are two main versions on the offer. Base models feature slightly less power and a simpler chassis setup. On the other side, NISMO models get significant upgrades in various aspects. Besides a more powerful engine, you also get stiffer springs, carbon-ceramic brakes, and an Alcantara leather-wrapped steering wheel. Also, you may count on massive use of carbon fiber.

Interior

This is definitely the area that shows the GT-R’s age most. Compared to much younger competitors, this model features a relatively cheap-looking cabin. You can find a couple of areas with cheap plastics, while the biggest issue is actually the look of the dashboard. Simply said, it looks old. A few years ago, the Japanese company came up with a little bit nicer materials, but that didn’t bring significant improvements.

The front seats are fantastic in every aspect. They are supportive, while the driving position is excellent. Also, they are spacious, so tall passengers can enjoy supercar performance as well. On the other side, the rear seats are extremely tight but in this class of cars, it’s amazing that you even get them. Finally, you may count on about 8.8 cubic feet of trunk space, which is quite decent for a supercar.

Features

Yearly updates are always possible but we doubt that bigger changes could happen for the next year. Most likely, things are about to remain the same. So, we expect that the list of standard equipment will consist of goodies like an 8-inch touch screen, navigation, Apple CarPlay, two USB ports, Bluetooth, HD Radio, satellite radio, and an 11-speaker Bose stereo. Additionally, you can get goodies like keyless entry, push-button start, and dual-zone automatic climate control. Interestingly, you can’t get Android Auto.

When it comes to safety, you get front and rear parking sensors and a rearview camera. Younger rivals offer more in this aspect.

2022 Nissan GT-R Engine

Nissan has constantly been improving its legendary, hand-built 3.8-liter V6 engine, which comes with twin turbochargers. Currently, there are two versions in the offer. Standard models are good for about 565 horsepower, which is enough to move this vehicle from zero to sixty in about three seconds. Of course, you can also get the NISMO version, which is good for a full 600 horsepower and provides even better performances.

In both cases, you may count on a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission, as well as on a pretty refined AWD system. The fuel economy goes around 16 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway.
