2022 Infiniti QX80 Preview: No Bigger Changes Expected

The current generation of Infiniti’s flagship SUV has been around for a full decade. However, it looks like the Japanese manufacturer won’t rush with the overhaul and that the current model will remain in the same form for another couple of years. This makes perfect sense, considering that the second facelift from a few years ago has brought significant styling changes and that the current version still looks very appealing. Therefore, we believe that the 2022 Infiniti QX80 could come with smaller updates only, with things like new color options, new standard equipment etc.

You may count on familiar design characteristics. They make this SUV competitive even today, when the competition is tougher than ever. You may count on an SUV that offers attractive styling, powerful V8, engaging handling and a quite affordable price compared to rivals. On the other side, the biggest drawbacks are low fuel economy, outdated interior design and not particularly spacious the third row of seats.

2022 Infiniti QX80 Redesign

In terms of base design characteristics, the 2022 Infiniti QX80 definitely won’t change. Mechanically, this is pretty much the same model as the one that arrived a decade ago. It rides on a good-old F-Alpha platform and shared most of its parts with the legendary Nissan Patrol. With more than 121 inches in wheelbase, it’s among the bigger luxury SUVs on the market.

Styling-wise, the 2018 update has brought notable improvements. The SUV now follows the brand’s latest design language and it is definitely one of the best-looking models in the segment. Of course, you may count on Infiniti’s typical sleek and smooth lines. Still, the overall appearance is still pretty rugged, thanks to the big size and typical body-on-frame design approach. As we’ve just mentioned, we don’t expect that the 2022 Infiniti QX80 will come with too many changes. Still, don’t exclude the possibility to see some new color option in the offer or some other minor aesthetical update.

Interior

Things on the inside shouldn’t change either. We expect to see the same overall layout, which hasn’t changed for a very long time. Many consider this dated dashboard design the biggest drawback of the QX80 but the company justifies that with a pretty affordable price, compared to biggest rivals. All in all, this is still a fine-looking interior, with nice materials and pleasant aesthetics, especially if you don’t like today’s hi-tech cabins.

2022 Infiniti QX80 Interior

When it comes to the interior space, things are typical for the class. It comes standard with three rows of seats and while the third row could be a little bit more spacious, there is still enough room to accommodate eight adult passengers in this luxury SUV. On the other side, there is nothing to complain about in terms of cargo volume. You may count on about 16.6 cubic feet of cargo space behind its third-row seats, 49.6 cubic feet with these seats folded, and 95.1 cubic feet with the second and third rows folded. Those are above-average numbers for the segment.

Features

Once again, we don’t expect to see bigger changes, though a couple of updates are possible. The current model is already quite decent in this aspect. It comes standard with tech goodies like 8- and 7-inch touch screens, a navigation system, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, four USB ports, HD Radio, satellite radio, and 13-speaker stereo, keyless entry, push-button start, remote start, tri-zone automatic climate control, a moonroof, and a power liftgate. Additionally, you can get things like a 17-speaker sound system and a rear-seat entertainment system with two 8-inch displays.

When it comes to safety, the current model already comes with a pretty long list of standard features. There are goodies like a rearview camera, a surround-view parking camera system, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, lane departure warning, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, a rear seat alert, and automatic high-beam headlights. Adaptive headlights are practically the only option in the offer.

2022 Infiniti QX80 Engine

Things under the hood definitely won’t change and the 2022 Infiniti QX80 will continue with a well-known 5.6-liter V8, which puts out around 400 horsepower and 413 pound-feet of torque. So, it’s not hard to realize that driving dynamics are pretty good. Combined with engaging handling, it delivers a really good driving experience. A seven-speed automatic transmission works pretty decently as well.

On the other side, the obvious drawback would be fuel economy. You may count on about 14 mpg in the city and 19 mpg on the highway. Those are some of the worst ratings in the class.

2022 Infiniti QX80 Release Date and Price

We expect to see 2022 Infiniti QX80 sometime in the last quarter of the year, with a starting price of around 70.000 dollars.
