The brand-new 2022 Infiniti QX55 is here and it brings a completely new approach to the brand’s styling philosophy. After German rivals, Nissan’s luxury division also comes with a variation on a theme that is commonly known as a coupe crossover. As you can see by the model’s name, it’s obvious that the compact QX50 served as the basis. Indeed, there are many more common things than differences between the two models.
What buyers may expect from this crossover is a little bit sportier appearance. Other than that, things look quite familiar. The ride quality is pretty much the same, considering that most of the mechanics have remained untouched. On the other side, the new model is notably pricier and less practical.
2022 Infiniti QX55 Redesign
Obviously, the biggest novelty is the styling. Compared to the QX50, there is a sloping roof layout, which provides a coupe-like appearance. Of course, this caused a completely new design of the rear end as well. On the other side, the rest of the vehicle remains largely the same, especially at the front, where it’s really hard to find any particular difference.
What’s more interesting is that Infiniti engineers didn’t bother with mechanics at all. Not only that we are talking about the same platform, same wheelbase and same engine, but the 2022 Infiniti QX55 also uses an identical suspension setup. In practice, this means we are talking about a model that looks sporty but doesn’t actually drive like that. It is rather comfortable than sharp and nimble.
Interior
Things are both the same and different if we compare the two siblings. If we look at the front part of the cabin, we can see the same dashboard design. It is a rather simplistic design approach, which is highlighted by two touchscreens. The upper one is for navigation, while the bottom unit pretty much everything else. The overall quality is good. Base models come with faux-leather upholstery, while genuine materials come with mid-range options.
We don’t have to be too smart to conclude that the sloping roof will have a negative effect on the rear passenger room. The new model struggles with headroom, just like we expected, though the legroom remained pretty much the same. Of course, the cargo area is also smaller, though we still don’t have the exact numbers. On the other side, the front row is spacious and comfortable. We particularly like the seats, which are some of the best in class.
2022 Infiniti QX55 Engine
This aspect of the vehicle comes with no surprises. The 2022 Infiniti QX55 uses the same 2.0-liter turbo-four with variable compression, offers a max output of 268 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. The engine is quite peppy and it’s a real shame it doesn’t come in pair with a genuine automatic transmission, or even a manual gearbox. Instead, it uses a CVT gearbox which is smooth but doesn’t use the full potential of this engine. Of course, both FWD and AWD variants are on offer.
When it comes to fuel economy, we still don’t have the exact numbers but we expect similar ratings to those in QX50. This would mean around 22 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway.
2022 Infiniti QX55 Pricing
The 2022 Infiniti QX55 is offered in three variants. The base version starts at around 47.500 dollars, which is 3.000 more compare to QX50. On the other side, the most expensive models cost a little bit over 58.000 dollars. Some of the key competitors will be models like BMW X4, Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe, Volvo XC60 etc.
