Nissan has pulled out from the minivan class. But, it didn’t last for too long. The 2021 Nissan Quest will be back on the market. The company prepares a lot of changes to make this model attractive again. Many experts predicted the end for minivans, but its rivals are still coping in the US market. The new Quest will see old rivals – Honda Odyssey, Chrysler Pacifica, and Toyota Sienna.

2021 Nissan Quest Specs
Under the bonnet of the 2021 Nissan Quest will be a V6 powerplant, that is for sure. Engineers are not going to experiment too much. Most rivals will use a similar setup, and it is a proven combination. The new Quest will bring back a 3.5-liter unit with 290 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque. We can see it in some other flagship models, such as Pathfinder’s three-row SUV. The overall weight will be similar, so we can expect equal fuel economy numbers. If this happens, the minivan will return 23 miles per gallon.
The major question is if the MPV is going to use an all-wheel drive. This system consumes more gasoline and that is the main reason why we could see the Quest without AWD. On the other hand, the towing capacity will be around 6,000 pounds, which is significantly more than the rivals.
Hybrid
The Japanese company plans big things for the 2021 season. Most of their existing models are coming unchanged for 2020, with the new season expected to bring serious changes. The return of the minivan is not the only big thing about it. The carmaker made it clear – there will be more hybrid, PHEV, and electric models in the future, starting in 2021. We still don’t know exactly what is Nissan going to do with the minivan. It needs to be modern, comfortable, and stylish. However, we don’t expect too much of aggressiveness, since this is a family vehicle. Whatsoever, Nissan has to surprise us and make some stunning moves to draw more attention.
We can make predictions about some things if we take a look at other vehicles. First of all, the 2021 Nissan Quest will be available with the S package for the entry-level model. Then, SV is a mid-range offer, while the SL is a package with premium equipment. We will see if the Quest is getting the Platinum version.
In this case, we will see dual moonroof panels, premium leather, Bose audio, and large 20-inch wheels. The base S model in all other Nissan vehicles comes with respectable features. For example, we can expect the MPV with automatic braking and an 8-inch infotainment system. Nissan will develop the new version of the NissanConnect services.
Competition
The 2021 Nissan Quest won’t have too many competitors in the minivan class. As said, SUVs are a bigger threat to this segment. So, a couple of years ago the company discontinued it and now they are ready to bring it back. There are only five true MPVs available for purchase in the USA. The best-selling model is Dodge Grand Caravan, while Honda Odyssey and Chrysler Pacifica are fighting for the number 2 spot. The latter one is the only model available with the hybrid drivetrain. Toyota Sienna is another important factor, while Kia is trying to make a breakthrough with its Sedona. Well, the situation is not so bright, mostly because the segment is not so popular.
2021 Nissan Quest Release Date and Price
The company is planning big things for 2021. We don’t expect the minivan to take a high position in the pecking order. SUVs and sedans are still a priority. Whatsoever, the carmaker will pay attention to the comeback and the premiere could happen late in 2020. The price will be competitive. Nissan will probably offer a better price to catch up with the competition. We believe it will be around $30,000. Of course, upper trim levels will offer more features and the cost will go over $40k.

New Quest should have a 9-speed transmission as a new Pathfinder. Release date will be probably in second half of 2021.

There is speculation from automotive news sources indicating the Nissan E-Van will be released in 2022. That means it will be launched around the same time as the Nissan Ariya EV Crossover. With two expected EV launches, Nissan is headed in the right direction in terms of EV strategy.
