Sentra is breaking the ice with the redesign. In the next couple of months, we will see more updates in the entire Nissan family. The carmaker starts with the car segment and in 2021 we will see new SUVs and crossovers. However, one car will be among the stars for that season. The changes in the 2021 Nissan Maxima are going to bring a lot of excitement to the dying class.
The future of Maxima and all other sedan and sports cars is under a question mark. Ford already quits these segments to pay full attention to the crossover and SUV classes. Having this in mind, we don’t know if the carmaker is going to launch a lot of updates. Still, with priority models on the way as well, the 2021 Nissan Maxima can take advantage of new technologies and equipment.
Furthermore, we expect to see changes in design. This is the biggest unknown in the upcoming car. We believe the same platform is about to underpin the new Maxima, meaning we can expect similar sizes and capacities. The Nismo model is a big wish. But, fans will more likely see it on Rogue, Frontier, or Kicks.
2021 Nissan Maxima Specs
The only drivetrain available for the 2021 Nissan Maxima is a V6. Engineers tuned its most reliable unit to deliver 300 hp and 270 lb-ft of torque. A 3.5-liter powerplant is paired with a CVT transmission and this one is sending power to front wheels. The new generation could use either RWD or AWD. Definitely, the all-wheel drive would be a great update for the 2021 season.
The alternative could be a turbocharged four-cylinder drivetrain with slightly less power. The company already replaced a V6 with the 2.5-liter turbo-four in the new Altima. So, the 2021 Maxima could be the next one to get a similar upgrade. This motor can send power to all wheels. An intelligent system distributes power to the axle that needs it more. The VC engine is the first-ever unit with Variable Compression with turbochargers. With improved fuel efficiency, the new car will definitely draw attention. Currently, a V6 consumes 20/30 mpg in city/highway.
This is another mystery Nissan doesn’t want to resolve. We expect a hybrid unit based on a V6 for many other vehicles, including Pathfinder SUV and Quest minivan, which could return in 2021. Also, the new Maxima will be among the first units to get such technology. The Japanese carmaker is desperate to improve the fuel economy of the full-size vehicle, and the hybrid unit is one of the possibilities. In this case, the car would gain some extra power, but the gas mileage is the major reason why fans are asking about the 2021 Nissan Maxima Hybrid.
According to rumors, the new system is going to combine a 3.5-liter powerplant with an electric motor. The base hybrid configuration will be able to create at least 310 horsepower, while the possible plug-in setup can go even higher. Well, there are no close details about the development, but the company plans a raid in 2021 with new technologies and drive systems.
Is Nissan Going to Discontinue Maxima?
The fact is that sales are dropping. The full-size car achieves only 50,000 purchases per annum and the company must think about further steps. The discontinuation or replacement are not excluded. The leading US carmaker, Ford, already cut sedans from its portfolio. You won’t see Fusion, Focus, Fiesta, and Mondeo anymore. Well, the company could bring them back after a few years, but crossovers and SUVs are destroying all other classes. They are more comfortable, safer, and reliable than any other segments, so there is no wonder why Ford already ended production of its cars, and many other companies are considering similar moves as well.
2021 Nissan Maxima Trim Levels
The 2021 Nissan Maxima will be there, that is for sure. Soon after that, we will find out if the Japanese automotive giant is after the new generation, or the car has not the bright future. In 2021, Maxima will keep its trim levels. Without AWD, six packages of equipment offered the wide choice to buyers.
The base model S and the price can’t go up. So, we will see the new Maxima available for $35,000. SV model already comes with leather-appointed seats, heated front buckets, and traffic sign sensors. Nissan is working on improving its intelligent systems, and ProPilot is already one of the most advanced services you can find in the market.
The SL model adds a premium audio system, panoramic moonroof, and heated steering wheel. Still, the price already reaches $40,000 and goes up when you add SR trim and its special drivetrain suspensions. Premium leather for the steering wheel and 19-inch wheels are a highlight on this model. The Platinum model comes with the same leather as upholstery and unique interior layouts. The top trim is Platinum Reserve. This one raises the premium features to another level with ultimate details inside the cabin.

I have a 1995 Maxima that has 500,000+ miles still running . Made me go buy the 2017 Maxima Platinum jus hope she’s half of what my baby is.
This isn’t the 2021 Maxima by a long shot. The car seen above is the concept for what became the new Altima.
I’ve owned 5 Maximas and an Altima. These are great cars. Agree with previous comment; the photo above was a concept used for the 2019 Altima rather than the Maxima. But what a beautiful Maxima that would be. Sales would increase for that model!
My wife and I are on our 2nd Nissan Maxima. We current have the 2016 Nissan Maxima SL that we purchased new when they first came out with this body style the first year in 2015. We may consider looking at the All-New Redesigned 2021 Nissan Maxima Platinum and want information as well as pictures about it.
If Nissan puts a electric engender in 2020 maxima I won’t buy the car
My family has the 2005 Maxima SL with just under 75,000 miles. Waiting for the redesign. We have had no issues with our current car and are very satisfied.
