Monograph Concept Takes Over the New 2021 Infiniti QX80

It is finally happening. After a year of pause, the new 2021 Infiniti QX80 is going to be an all-new SUV with the new platform. We already know all about the Monograph concept and the company is ready to use the new architecture on its largest model. Changes are massive – cosmetic and performance upgrades make the QX80 one of the favorites to steal the show in 2021. But, other companies are not going to leave the market easily. The new Cadillac Escalade is also being spotted and its release date is scheduled for the same season.

Well, these are not the only models in the full-size premium segment. But, we know the most about them. GM is testing Escalade for a while. The 2021 Infiniti QX80 redesign rumors started even earlier – with the first appearance of the Monograph concept in 2018. Now, it is time for the platform to shine and show the full potential.

We still don’t know how many details from the new concept will be implemented to the SUV. Another big question is – what will we find under the hood? The company is planning a raid with electric and hybrid engines. One of these could be the biggest novelty for the upcoming big rig. Other rumors suggest that Nissan could develop a new V6 engine for its largest models.

2021 Infiniti QX80 Specs

Current QX80 is using the largest possible petrol engine by its parent company. It is a 5.6-liter V8 unit with the capability to tow 8,500 pounds. It produces 400 hp and 413 lb-ft of torque. Toyota’s 5.7-liter unit delivers 380 hp and GM’s pair of V8 can burst 360-420 ponies. If you are looking for a fuel-friendly vehicle, then you should turn to the smaller SUV. The 2021 Infiniti QX80 will be lighter, but it is not going to make it an economical vehicle.

The engine is mated to a seven-speed automatic gearbox that sends power to rear wheels. The company introduced the new 4WD and this one is certain for the upcoming SUV. More changes in suspensions and exhaust systems could make a ride more comfortable and pleasant.

V6 and Hybrid Engines

Multiple sources are reporting that Nissan is ready to make a high-output version of the V6 engine for its biggest models. That is what Ford doing. Its Expedition and Lincoln Navigator SUVs are offering 450 hp from a 3.5-liter V6. Infiniti could be the next carmaker to do so with QX80.

It is still a dream to see the full-size SUV with a hybrid drivetrain. Other carmakers are trying to balance between fuel economy and performance. Well, the future might arrive soon with the 2021 Infiniti QX80. The Japanese company didn’t make any major updates on their SUV lineup for 2020. Chiefs explained that more hybrid and electric models are on the way and that is the priority for 2021. Could QX80 be one of them?

Forget About 2021 Infiniti QX80 Diesel

According to the latest moves, very probably. Infiniti and Nissan will shift to cleaner sources of power. The first step was made – the only diesel unit in the USA is eliminated. Titan XD truck is not offering a 5.0-liter turbodiesel V8 powerplant. It is hard to believe in its comeback after only a year of pause. Nissan also writes off the chances of other diesel units coming to the US shores any time soon.

What is Monograph Concept?

During 2018, Infiniti dropped the new concept. The Monograph is the platform for future big SUVs. It is not going to underpin the 2021 Infiniti QX80 only, but also the QX60 mid-size model. At the premiere, we saw a few breathtaking features. For example, the design of the windows is too futuristic. If designers bring the same look into production, the QX80 will be the most attractive model out there.

Well, the platform shows 24-inch wheels. This might be an optional upgrade. The overall length is 17 feet (204 inches). That is 4 in shorter than the current version. So, the room inside is not going to be as generous as before. Still, the 2021 Infiniti QX80 will be among the most spacious vehicles the money can buy.

The exterior design is a special story. Elegant, aggressive, and aerodynamic, the Monograph concept presents the perfect combination of multiple classes. Still, we are not sure if the curves are heading into production. Huge grille and bumper are highlights of the front fascia.

2021 Infiniti QX80 Release Date

The 2021 Infiniti QX80 has a clear path with the new model for 2020 season out. However, we will have to wait a bit until the first prototypes appear. The company hasn’t started tests yet. We expect to see the new SUV early in 2020, and the sales are starting closer to 2021.
