2020 Nissan Xterra Price, Comeback, Release Date

These days, we are witnessing a big return of body-on-frame SUVs, so it’s no wonder that many experts also speculate about the revival this familiar nameplate. As you probably know, Toyota 4Runner and Jeep Wrangler aren’t the only mid-size SUVs on the market anymore. The legendary Ford Bronco is coming back, while Dodge Durango is about to come back to BoF layout. Also, it looks like the Chevy is preparing something similar as well. Considering all these novelties and comebacks, it seems logical to expect the same thing from Nissan. The new Frontier is on its way, so the new SUV could come already in the next year, as the 2020 Nissan Xterra.

Of course, it will come with plenty of improvements compared to the previous model, which has been discontinued years ago. New design, new engines, advanced tech features and tons of other novelties are something we expect from the upcoming model.

2020 Nissan Xterra Platform

The 2020 Nissan Xterra still waits for the official confirmation, but many experts claim this is a certain thing. Simply, the demand for traditional SUV is getting bigger these days and Nissan wants its share on the market. Therefore, bringing back a familiar nameplate seems like a logical move. As you probably already know, the Frontier pickup is finally about to get a complete overhaul. It will be based on the current-generation Navara, so we expect the same from the 2020 Nissan Xterra.

That would mean a familiar F-Alpha platform, which will come with significant improvements. A new version of this architecture has been codenamed D23 and it ensures a great balance between performances and overall ride quality. There is no doubt that the new model will be both capable and comfortable.

Exterior Design

Of course, one of the things that bother us is how the new model is going to look like from the outside. In terms of dimensions, this should be a typical mid-size SUV, with common proportions. Also, there is no doubt that the new 2020 Nissan Xterra will share a lot of aesthetical details with its truck sibling. Just like with the previous generation, the front end should be pretty much the same as on the Frontier. Of course, this would mean a lot of inspiration taken from Navara.

We are still waiting to see how the new Frontier is going to look like and the thing we should take into consideration is the fact that Navara is about to get a facelift soon. In any case, a bunch of new styling details is guaranteed. The rest of the vehicle is about to come in a typical SUV layout, with a large wagon-like body that offers a lot of space and functionality.

Interior

Details about the 2020 Nissan Xterra are still unavailable and won’t be for some more time. Still, we may presume that the new dashboard will look similar to the truck sibling. So, once the new Frontier arrives, we will know much more about the upcoming SUV. In any case, we count on a well-built cabin, full of quality materials that will be rather durable than fine.

Of course, there is no doubt that the new model will also come with a full load of standard equipment, including loads of tech goodies and advanced safety systems. In terms of the overall cabin layout, we presume this will be a typical three-row SUV, with the third row that won’t be very generous in terms of space. Moreover, Nissan may offer two-row versions as well. Of course, a decent amount of cargo space is expected as well.

2020 Nissan Xterra Engines

When it comes to engines, we count on a lot of novelties. First of all, the old 4.0-liter V6 will be replaced with the new one. We bet on a new 3.0-liter unit, which is good for about 300 horsepower. Of course, this will be an optional engine, while base models will probably come with four cylinders. That could easily be the same 2.5-liter engine. Still, we would expect significant modifications on this engine, which would provide more power, better fuel economy and better overall efficiency. Both engines should come with a 7-speed automatic transmission.

Also, many reports are suggesting a diesel version of the new 2020 Nissan Xterra. This seems like a logical move, considering that the rivals are about to do the same. If that happens, we presume that the new SUV would feature an efficient 2.3-liter dCi engine from Renault, which is good for about 190 horsepower. However, some experts suggest we could even see a bigger 3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel, which currently powers the X-Class, which is good for about 255 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque.

2020 Nissan Xterra Release Date and Price

At this point, we are still waiting for the official confirmation. However, many experts claim that the 2020 Nissan Xterra is definitely coming. Moreover, some of them suggest it will come already in the next year. If this happens, we presume that the base price would probably go around 35.000 dollars. Key rivals will be models like Toyota 4Runner, Ford Bronco, Jeep Wrangler etc.
