Despite the fact that the Silvia is not in production for a long time, the interest for this famous coupe hasn’t faded at all. Moreover, we’ve been hearing a lot of talk about the new model in the past few years. The next generation codenamed S16 has been an object of speculations for a pretty long time. Latest reports are suggesting that the new model could come already in the next year, as 2020 Nissan Silvia. Of course, these are just rumors, while the company’s spokesmen are still quiet on this matter.
According to rumors, the Japanese manufacturer will offer a vehicle that will be borrowing a lot of design solutions from sedans from the current lineup, particularly Altima. The new Silvia will be a perfect daily sports driver, a vehicle that combines performances with everyday practicality. As we already mentioned, the first versions could come already in the next year.
Where will 2020 Nissan Silvia be positioned in the company’s lineup?
This looks quite interesting. On one side, there is no doubt that the new 2020 Nissan Silvia will feature bigger body than the new Z-Car. It will be bigger and feature two rows of seats. So, in terms of dimensions, it will stand between the future 400Z and the GT-R.
On the other side, there is no doubt that the new Z model will be a much better performer. Although smaller, it will feature a bigger and significantly more powerful V6 engine, with 400 horsepower at least. On the other side, the new 2020 Nissan Silvia will be more about everyday practicality. Therefore, the engine will be smaller, probably a turbo-four, while ride will be softer and more comfortable.
2020 Nissan Silvia Redesign
In terms of base design characteristics, there is no doubt that the new 2020 Nissan Silvia will take a lot of inspiration from the company’s current lineup. Unlike Z and GT-R, it probably won’t be characterized by distinctive styling. More likely, it will follow the company’s latest design language and also come with the famous V-motion grille. Still, we count on a bunch of interesting details, particularly at the front. Naturally, we expect to see more openings for fresh air, while the famous lighting badge should find its place on the hood as well. In terms of the overall design, we count on a typical coupe layout.
On the other side, the mechanics are still a bit of a mystery. Some reports are talking about the possibility to see the new 2020 Nissan Silvia riding on a CMF platform, which underprints the new Altima. However, this architecture doesn’t have too many potentials for the sports ride, particularly because of the FF layout. Therefore, we are much closer to those reports that suggest the evolution of the famous FM platform, which is used not just for Nissan’s sports cars, but for a long list of Infiniti’s RWD models.
Considering that the new model is still in an early stage of development, it seems too early to talk about some more specific interior details. Still, we may presume that the company will try to make this car practical for everyday use. Therefore, a typical 2+2 seating configuration, with a decent amount of legroom in the second row seems like a certain thing. Other than that, we may presume that the dashboard design will have a lot in common with passenger cars like Altima, though the company will add a lot of new details in order to accentuate its sporty character. Naturally, the latest tech features will be a part of standard equipment, as well as a full load of advanced safety systems.
As we’ve already mentioned, the new 2020 Nissan Silvia will be both practical and driveable. Therefore, we count on a good balance between power and efficiency. Also, we expect that Nissan will stick to the tradition, which means a typical turbo-four powertrain. Therefore, the first thing that comes to mind is Nissan’s new 2.0-liter turbo-four engine, which will probably be tuned to somewhere between 260 and 300 horsepower. This engine is not just powerful, but also pretty efficient. It features a so-called variable compression ratio technology. Basically, the engine automatically adjusts its compression, which optimizes power and efficiency. We expect that the 2020 Nissan Silvia will come with a manual transmission in the offer as well. An RWD seems natural, though some reports also suggest an options FWD layout.
2020 Nissan Silvia Release Date and Price
As we already mentioned, the 2020 Nissan Silvia is still just a speculation. Despite numerous reports, the company is still quiet about the new, S16 Silvia. At this point, we can just hope that rumors about the comeback are true. When it comes to the price, the same reports suggest the new model should go somewhere between 35.000 and 40.000 dollars in the base version.
When it comes to the competition, the 2020 Nissan Silvia has a wide range of potential rivals. For example, it will compete with muscle cars like Camaro and Mustang. Also, the list of potential competitors would include entry-level premium sedans and coupes, such as BMW 3 and 4 Series, Infiniti Q60 etc. Finally, the small Subaru BRZ and Toyota 86 are about to get a redesign that will bring a significantly more powerful engine, which promises spectacular performances.
