2020 Nissan Patrol Review, Diesel, Y62, UTE

There is no doubt that the famous SUV will receive a complete overhaul soon. The current generation has been around for almost a decade, so the next-generation has to come in the near future. However, it probably won’t be ready for the next year. The testing model has been spotted in the Middle East and it looks like there is still a lot of work to do. Therefore, most experts expect to see 2020 Nissan Patrol without more important changes, while already the 2021-year model should arrive with a complete design.

At this point, we don’t know many details about the new generation, though we have no doubt that improvements will be numerous, starting from a new platform, new design etc. Of course, many of us also wonder about the powertrain and it all looks like the current V8 will carry on, with a couple of modifications, of course.

When to expect the all-new Nissan Patrol?

As we’ve just mentioned, the next generation of the iconic SUV is about to come in the next year, like the 2021-year model. Naturally, we count on a lot of novelties. Of course, the first thing that comes to mind is a new platform. We will see a completely new architecture, this time developed together with Mitsubishi, according to the latest reports. This will bring a lot of benefits, starting from improved handling and overall driving characteristics, although we have to say that the current model is already pretty amazing, despite the age. Of course, this redesign will also bring a completely new styling, though we won’t speculate about exact details at the moment.

Finally, there is a question about the powertrain. Latest reports are suggesting that the current 5.6-liter V8 will remain, although it should receive various modification in order to improve overall efficiency. Additionally, we could see a diesel version on certain markets. On the other side, a hybrid model is not expected in the near future.

2020 Nissan Patrol Redesign

Considering that the redesign has been left for the next year, the 2020 Nissan Patrol will come without more important changes. For the last production year of the current generation, Nissan will offer a familiar design, which is based on the amazing Y62 platform.

The strongest point of this architecture is an amazing driving experience. Despite the age, the Patrol is still one of the most dynamic models in the class. Moreover, it is also one of the most off-road capable machines you can get on the market.

In terms of styling, we haven’t seen too many changes since the initial launch. There was a facelift five years ago but even for that occasion, changes were pretty modest. We saw a couple of revisions at the front end, such as a slightly modified bumper, new fog lights, revised headlights etc. The 2020 Nissan Patrol will be the last production year of the current generation, which clearly indicate that there is no room for any visual update.

Interior

The current model may be old but still features a pretty attractive interior design. First of all, the overall quality is great. Hi-end materials are everywhere, while higher trim levels can compare with premium SUVs as well. Also, the cabin is very spacious. It can accommodate up to 8 passengers and even the third row is adult-friendly. On the other side, the biggest complaint goes to tech features, which seems logical, considering the model’s age.

Of course, it’s mostly about the infotainment system, which is pretty basic for today’s standards. Still, the list of standard equipment is pretty generous and includes things like dual-zone automatic climate control and an infotainment system that includes an 8-inch touch screen, navigation, a 13-speaker Bose audio system, satellite radio, Bluetooth, four USB ports, voice recognition etc. The next year could bring a couple of additions for sure.

When it comes to the cargo area, you can count on about 16 cubic feet behind rear seats. Once you fold all seats down, the capacity goes up to 95 cubic feet. These are pretty average numbers for the class.

Engine Options

There is no space for surprises under the hood of 2020 Nissan Patrol. It will continue with a well-known 5.6-liter V8, which is good for about 390 horsepower and 395 pound-feet of power. Driving dynamics are great, as well as handling. So, we can say for sure that the Patrol is among most driveable models in the class. Also, towing capacity is pretty good, as it goes up to 8.500 pounds. On the other side, fuel economy isn’t that great. It goes around 14 mpg in the city and 18 mpg on the highway. These are among the lowest ratings in the class.

2020 Nissan Patrol Release Date and Price

The 2020 Nissan Patrol will be the last year model of the current generation. It won’t get any notable change, so there is no reason to expect any earlier arrival. It will hit the market sometime late in the year. Also, the price should remain pretty much the same. It largely depends on the market but in most parts of the world, base models go between 50.000 and 55.000 dollars.
