Although the current generation has been around since 2012, it looks like we won’t see a redesign in the near future. The current model still has a lot of things to offer. Thanks to its old-school body-on-frame platform, it looks like a little throwback to some better times. Such construction ensures more rigidity, which can be beneficial in many ways. This is a super-capable van, but the comfort and overall ride quality are on a high level as well. As we already mentioned, the current generation has been around for about seven years. We didn’t see many updates during this production cycle, though some more up-to-date features have been introduced, especially in terms of tech goodies. In any case, we have no doubt that the 2020 Nissan NV Passenger will remain highly competitive in the segment where some of the biggest rivals are models like Ford Transit and Mercedes-Benz Sprinter.
2020 Nissan NV Passenger Redesign
In terms of base design characteristics, this is a pretty old-school van. It rides on a traditional body-on-frame platform, which makes it more truckish compared to the competition. Of course, such design brings both good and bad things, but the overall impression is that the truck rides pretty good, considering the platform. On the other side, it is stiffer and more capable than rivals.
Another interesting thing about the van is its styling, which comes with a truck-like, bulging nose, which isn’t a common thing among passenger vans these days. This definitely makes the truck looks distinctive, although we must say those aesthetics in overall are a little bit outdated, considering that the grille and headlights are based on previous-generation Nissan styling philosophy.
On the inside, the 2020 Nissan NV Passenger will also come without changes. Compared to rivals, the interior of this van looks a little bit outdated. It comes with a lot of hard plastics and the overall interior quality isn’t at the same level as on models like Sprinter and Transit. On the other side, the amount of space is huge. The cabin is very generous in terms of legroom, in all rows of seats. Despite there are several configurations in the offer, a big drawback is a fact that the 2020 Nissan NV Passenger once again won’t be available in a version with 15 seats, which isn’t the case with rivals.
Trim Levels
When it comes to trim level organization, it is rather simple. There are three versions in the offer – S, SV and SL.
The base S model comes standard with things like front and rear air conditioning, power windows and door locks, remote keyless entry, cruise control, a tilt-only steering wheel, a rearview camera etc. In terms of tech features, some of the notable features are things like 7-inch display, Bluetooth, a USB port, and a four-speaker stereo, CD player etc.
The SV trim is a bit of an upgrade. Not only that it comes with more standard equipment, but also feature a couple of notable styling upgrades, particularly in terms of additional chrome accents. When it comes to standard features, it adds things like rear parking sensors, an eight-way power driver’s seat, a center console, additional 12-volt power outlets, overhead lighting for the passenger rows, audio controls on the steering wheel etc.
Finally, the SL it the top of the line trim level. Some of the highlights are things like leather upholstery, heated front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control etc. Also, it comes with a 5.8-inch touchscreen, as well as with things like a navigation system, NissanConnect mobile apps and satellite radio. Finally, you can count on a couple of utility upgrades, on things like brake controller, Class IV receiver hitch, front tow hooks, pre-wiring for a seven-pin connector etc.
Keep in mind that this is the list of features for the current, 2019-year model. The 2020 Nissan NV Passenger could come with a couple of additions, but don’t expect anything more significant.
Powertrain
We’ve already said that this van brings a pretty traditional driving experience. Of course, one of the main reasons for that is powertrain. There are two variants in the offer. Base version features a 4.0-liter V6 engine, which is good for about 261 horsepower and 281 pound-feet of torque and it comes in pair with an old 5-speed automatic transmission. Higher trims come with a bigger 5.6-liter V8, which for this occasion delivers around 375 horsepower and 390 pound-feet of torque. Also, this engine comes with a more modern 7-speed automatic transmission.
When it comes to riding quality, the base engine already delivers plenty of power for a convenient ride, even with a full cargo. Naturally, the V8 is even better. Both engines are characterized by excellent reliability and durability. On the other side, don’t expect some spectacular mpg ratings.
2020 Nissan NV Passenger Release Date and Price
As you can see, bigger changes for the 2020 Nissan NV Passenger won’t come. Therefore, we are pretty sure that the upcoming model will hit the market sometime late in the year. The price should remain pretty much the same, which would mean that base models would go around 36.000 dollars.
