With untypically long production cycle for such a small vehicle, the Cube is still one of the more interesting cars you can see on the road. The current, third-generation has been around for more than a decade. It was introduced in 2008 and we haven’t seen too many modifications since then. Initially, this model was offered in various parts of the world, including North America and Europe. These days, you can find it only in Japan and maybe in a few more Asian countries. The model is quite old, so it’s no wonder that various reports suggest a complete overhaul in the near future, maybe even for the 2020 Nissan Cube.
At this point, we can only speculate, as the official information about this redesign is still about to come. The company is currently pretty quiet on this matter, but we hope we will get something in the near future. According to some reports, the upcoming model will carry on in the same way, while a complete overhaul will happen in about a year.
2020 Nissan Cube Redesign
No matter if the overhaul happens in a couple of months or in a year, there is no doubt it will bring a lot of novelties. The current generation has been around since 2008, which is way too long by any standards of today’s automotive industry, especially for such a small car. Therefore, the novelties will be numerous in this case. The exact details are still unavailable, but we may presume that the new model will switch to the company’s new CMF platform, which would provide better driving characteristics, more refined ride, new engines and more.
Exterior Design
Of course, the first thing that comes to mind about this model is its shape. We presume that the company will keep base proportions and that the next-generation 2020 Nissan Cube will come with a familiar boxy shape. Also, we don’t expect bigger changes in terms of dimensions, though the wheelbase could be stretched for a bit. On the other side, there is no doubt that the new model will come with completely new aesthetics. At this point, we can’t talk about details but there is no doubt that Nissan will try to bring this car as close as possible to the brand’s latest design language.
Of course, this will be a little bit tricky, given the vehicles boxy shape. Still, the famous V-motion grille design should be applied in some portion. The rest of the vehicle will also come with new aesthetics and we count on generally sharper approach, with the more dynamic overall look.
Interior Design
This is where we expect to see significant improvements compared to the previous generation. The current model definitely features poor interior quality by any standards. Simply, the whole cabin is made of cheap plastics, while the dashboard design definitely belongs to another era of the automotive industry. Therefore, expectations from the 2020 Nissan Cube are pretty big.
First of all, we count on much better overall quality. Also, we expect to see much better work in terms of aesthetics, as well as improvements in terms of seat quality and overall comfort, though we have to say that the current model rides surprisingly smooth. Of course, there is no doubt that the new model will come with a full load of modern tech features, including a touchscreen-based infotainment system, smartphone integration and other connectivity features. We also count on a full load of advanced safety systems.
On the other side, practicality will remain the strongest point. Due to a boxy shape, this small car features pretty spacious cabin, which is also very practical for bigger objects and similar loads. Also, there is plenty of headroom, so taller drivers will definitely like the 2020 Nissan Cube.
2020 Nissan Cube Engine
The previous generation was equipped with different engines, depending on the market. For example, the North American model featured a familiar 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine with around 122 horsepower. It wasn’t a very powerful engine, but the fuel economy was at a low level as well. Therefore, we count on significant improvements in the 2020 Nissan Cube. Most likely, the new model will come with a new 1.3-liter turbo-four, which comes in two output variants, with either 130 or 160 horsepower. This seems like a perfect measure for a vehicle of this size. Still, we hope for more powertrain options.
One of the possibilities is to see 2020 Nissan Cube Hybrid. In that case, we would probably see the same hybrid system as in the new Renault Clio, which combines a familiar 1.6-liter gasoline engine with a 1.2-kWh lithium-ion battery and two electric motors. Finally, if the 2020 Nissan Cube comes to Europe too, diesel versions seem certain. Of course, that would mean a well-known 1.5-liter dCi engine, which comes in various output versions.
2020 Nissan Cube Release Date and Price
The 2020 Nissan Cube is just a rumor at the moment. We still don’t know for sure is this model going to get a redesign or not. Therefore, we won’t speculate about the price and possible release date. Take the previous paragraphs with a big reserve.
I really hope that the Nissan cube will be back I loved the one I had and I miss not having it It was so practical with great personality, all cars today look the same so boring with no unique features and class, the cube had it all it had great style. if it comes back even with more and better features I will be the first one in line to buy it….Please bring it back!!!! carlene welch
I loved my Chrome Cube I bought it as soon as they were available in TN. I kept it for 10 years w/o any problems at all and ended up giving it to my brother a year or two ago & he absolutely loves it! Still no problems at all. I love that he has it but I sure miss it and want another one!!! I’m really looking forward to buying one again if they ever bring them back! Everyone I’ve ever talked to that had one wants another one!! Please, bring them back!!!!! I have a Kicks now, which is a nice car but it’s not a Cube!!
