After the recent complete overhaul, the Japanese carmaker is preparing its mid-size sedan for the second production year. This model will come as the 2020 Nissan Altima. As you may presume, it won’t feature too many novelties, considering that it is still pretty fresh. The recent redesign has brought novelties in pretty much all aspects, starting from a completely new design and aesthetics. Still, that doesn’t mean there are no novelties to come for the next year.
Of course, they will be minor, but still quite subtle. We are about to see the list of safety features expanded, while there is also the new Piano Black interior color to come. Other than that, we will see a couple of new standard features and that would be all from the novelties for 2020 Nissan Altima. The rest of the car is about to remain the same, so we don’t expect any earlier arrival than usual.
2020 Nissan Altima Redesign
In terms of base design characteristics, the 2020 Nissan Altima definitely won’t changes. The recent redesign has brought a lot of novelties, so we have no doubt that this sedan will remain fresh for some time. It rides on a new version of a familiar CMF platform, which has brought notable improvements in terms of ride quality, particularly in handling. Besides great driving experience, this sedan also offers pretty nice aesthetics. The company’s well-known V-Motion grille design language has gotten the new iteration, which is characterized by sharper angles and lines than before.
The whole silhouette became sleeker, without sacrificing interior space. Moreover, the new generation is even more comfortable. Give all the novelties, we have no doubt that the 2020 Nissan Altima will continue in the same way. Exterior changes won’t come, though we could easily see some new color options in the offer.
Interior
When it comes to interior design, things will also remain largely the same. At this point, we expect that the biggest novelty will be a new Piano Black color scheme, reserved for higher trims. Other than that, the 2020 Nissan Altima is about to continue with the same cabin layout. As we already mentioned, the new generation is more spacious than before, so adult passengers will definitely enjoy the ride in both rows. Also, there is a completely new styling, which brings a pretty upscale feel.
The dashboard is particularly attractive. It comes with attractive, clean shape, as well as with a lot of opulence. In higher trims, this cabin is even comparable with premium models.
When it comes to the cargo capacity, you can count on about 15.5 cubic feet in the trunk. These are pretty much average numbers for the class.
Features
When it comes to novelties in terms of new features, the 2020 Nissan Altima will come with driver memory settings in the offer. Unfortunately, this feature will be reserved for the Platinum trim.
On the other side, a full suite of safety features will become standard in all except the base S trim level. This suite includes things like front collision warning, automatic emergency braking, a rearview camera, blind-spot monitoring, lane departure warning and rear parking sensors.
The rest of the features will remain pretty much the same as in the current model.
Therefore, the base S trim will include standard features like power-adjustable drivers seats, push-button start, 8-inch touchscreen, two USB inputs, Bluetooth, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay etc.
The SR trim will remain a performance-oriented version of the mid-size sedan. It will come with a couple of updates, starting from a sporty suspension, unique styling elements and paddle shifters.
If you prefer more standard equipment, but still don’t want to spend an enormous amount of money, the SV trim seems like a well-balanced choice. This version comes with standard features like heated front seats and dual-zone climate control, as well as ProPilot Assist technology.
The SL brings on with leather upholstery, navigation, Bose audio system etc.
Finally, there is the Platinum trim, which besides loads of standard equipment also comes with unique styling details, ambient lighting, bigger wheels and similar things.
2020 Nissan Altima Engines
Things under the hood will definitely remain the same. Base models will continue with a 2.5-liter naturally-aspirated unit, which is good for about 188 horsepower. Of course, there is also a new 2.0-liter turbo-four in the offer, which is good for about 250 horsepower and ensures pretty strong performances. Both engines are also fuel-efficient, particularly the base unit, which returns around 28 mpg in the city and 39 mpg on the highway. The turbo-four returns around 25 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway.
2020 Nissan Altima Release Date and Price
Considering that there are no bigger changes to come, the 2020 Nissan Altima will come in a typical time of year. That would mean sometime late, probably in December. When it comes to the price, bigger deviations are not expected. Base models should go around 24.000 dollars.
Competition in the segment is pretty tough. The Altima is a great car, but very unlucky to compete in the segment where Toyota Camry and Honda Accord are undisputed leaders. Other notable competitors are models like Mazda 6, Kia Optima, Chevy Malibu etc.
