The initial version of the Q40 model didn’t last for long. It was a part of the company’s new naming policy, so it was practically nothing more then a renamed Infiniti G. A year later, it was already discontinued. Its successor is a model called Infiniti Q50, which represents this luxury brand in the segment of compact sedans. These days, various reports are suggesting that the familiar nameplate will come back, this time as the 2020 Infiniti Q40. Allegedly, the Japanese carmaker is about to introduce an even smaller sedan, which will be subcompact in size.
If we can rely on rumors, this model will have a lot in common with the rumored next-generation Q30, which could come already in the next year. At this point, we don’t have too many details about it, though we will rely mostly on rumors. Hopefully, more details will be available in the near future.
2020 Infiniti Q40 Redesign
When it comes to base design characteristics, the 2020 Infiniti Q40 is about to share most of its parts with the rumored next-generation Q30. The small hatchback is expected to come completely redesigned in the next year. Once again, it should be based on the Mercedes-Benz A-Class, which has been redesigned a year ago. Considering that the new generation comes in both hatchback and sedan versions, it’s not hard to make a conclusion that the 2020 Infiniti Q40 will borrow most of its design characteristics from this model. Of course, this primarily refers to mechanics. The two models will ride on the same platform, same chassis, engines etc. We count on pretty similar dimensions. On the other side, the new Infiniti will come with its own styling, based on the brand’s new design language.
Exterior
Models from this company are generally known as pretty attractive cars. Therefore, we expect nothing less from the 2020 Infiniti Q40. Of course, it will follow the brand’s new design language. This clearly indicates a lot of styling cues borrowed from the company’s latest model, the QX50. Compared to most rivals, the 2020 Infiniti Q40 will look sleeker and less angular. While most carmakers insist on sharp lines today, Infiniti sticks to its well-known philosophy and brings a lot of clean shapes and rounded surfaces. In terms of the overall shape, we count on a common 4-door sedan layout, subcompact in size.
Also, we expect that the Japanese manufacturer will finally start to work on suspension improvements. The current models in the lineup aren’t the most athletic in their segment. Fortunately, this one will feature mechanics from the A-Class, so it should deliver notably sportier driving characteristics. How is all this going to look like, it is still early to talk about.
Interior
When it comes to the interior design, we expect from the 2020 Infiniti Q40 to be spacious, despite the overall size. The new A-Class an inch in wheelbase, so we count on the same from this sedan. In practice, this would mean a lot of legroom, particularly in the second row, where adults will be able to drive comfortably as well. When it comes to the overall cabin design, we count on a new layout, which will bring a lot of improvements in terms of the interior quality, although we have to say that the current Q30 hatchback is already at a pretty high level in this aspect.
Of course, new aesthetics will come as well, which will provide more attractive cabin look, particularly in terms of the dashboard. Finally, we are about to see novelties in terms of standard features. We count on new tech goodies, but also on advanced safety systems and driver aids.
2020 Infiniti Q40 Engines
Under the hood, the 2020 Infiniti Q40 should come with the same engines as the new A-Class. Therefore, base versions will feature a new 1.4-liter turbo-four, which comes in several output versions and is characterized by great overall efficiency. Higher trims will come with a bigger and more powerful 2.0-liter turbo-four. In its base version, this engine delivers 235 horsepower, but we also count on more powerful versions in the offer, reserved for performance-oriented trim levels.
Considering that the new model is expected to be offered in Europe, we count on diesel engines too. Therefore, we expect that a well-known 1.5-liter dCi from Renault will carry on, of course with some modifications that would provide more power and better overall efficiency. Also, we expect to see Mercedes-Benz’s new 2.0-liter turbodiesel in the offer, in several output versions.
2020 Infiniti Q40 Release Date and Price
We are still waiting to hear something from the officials. At this point, the 2020 Infiniti Q40 is just a rumor, but our reliable sources claim that the new sedan is very close to getting the green light. If this happens in the near future, we could see it on the market already in the next year. We presume that base models would go around 30.000 dollars, roughly.
